HOWARD COUNTY INITIATIVES

A professional with a passion for building inclusive communities through communications, broadcasting, video/radio/media production, and service, Cris is the owner of CO
Communications LLC, where she focuses on producing shows that inform Spanish and English speaking audiences about community resources and programs in Howard County and beyond.

Her expertise in media communications extends for over 10 years and includes audio and video podcast production, social media strategic planning and management, hosting and interviewing, and culturally appropriate translating to/from Spanish/English.  

Additionally, Cris’ goal to educate and empower the Hispanic community has led her to facilitate Spanish workshops and panels on diverse topics including business development, real estate investing, and podcasting, in partnership with organizations like the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Community Care, and Unidoos. She has also conducted research around the Hispanic community in Howard County and provided reports with recommendation to Howard County Government, and conducted surveys and focus groups with families whose main language at home is Spanish for strategic planning purposes of the Horizon Foundation.

As an immigrant from Ecuador, Cris’ has been a resident of the state of Maryland since she first came to the US in 2001, and is sensitive to the specific needs of her comunidad, having experienced many of the barriers immigrants face when they first arrive to the United States herself, she is now committed to build supports, facilitate relationships between comunidad and government, inform and educate Hispanics in Maryland with media and in person, and she’s doing so as a Howard County Commissioner with The Alianza Latina, as a Howard County Liaison for the MD Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, as Howard County Local Children Board Appointee, as a board member of Columbia Community Care, as a member of the Social Justice Ministry  of St John's the Evangelist, and as an independent media producer and collaborator with Somos Baltimore Latino.
