Frida Kahlo: Picturing an Icon Exhibition
June 14- October 5 – Frida Kahlo: Picturing an Icon
A collection of the famed Mexican artist’s personal photographs that she always kept with her, including entrusting them to her physician when she was hospitalized. Both the photographs and the photographers played a significant role in her life, documenting the people, times, places and circumstances that informed and influenced her art and social activism.
Through more than 100 vintage photographs selected from her private albums, Frida Kahlo: Picturing an Icon allows us to see Kahlo through the eyes of friends and family, and introduces us to her complex, enthralling, and often heartbreaking life. It’s a story of tenacity, creativity, passion, and politics—full of iconic imagery and friendships and alliances with global impact.
This exhibition is organized by Vicente Wolf Associates from Vicente Wolf’s collection. Major funding has been provided by Nora & Bruce Wilder and the Visit Hagerstown & Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
